Magic Man is secretly a “good guy”  and he either does not consciously know it, or does not want others to know about it.
In “Freak City” when he turns Finn into a foot, he purposely made it so the others who were turned into other body parts, who, without Finn, would have still hated each other and themselves, work together, and in the end decide that they are stronger and happier together. This lead to the group of “others” becoming a strong team.
In the episode, “All the Little People”, by giving Finn miniature version of everyone,  he taught Finn about how some things work out and some don’t, and to avoid things he that don’t. So really, Magic Man has helped teach lessons, even though no one, even he, realizes it.

Thoughts after watching “Joshua and Margaret Investigations”:
The Lich may be somebody that humanity has done wrong to, for example taking away someone he loved, or something else tragic. This may have affected him, making him want revenge on the human race.
He also could possibly have had a major conflict with Finn’s Dad, making him want to get rid of any of his “leftovers”, or remaining species. Another theory is the Lich could have had a problem with Finn’s heroic quality, as in the future Finn could be able to finish off the Lich. Knowing this, the Lich wants to kill Finn at an early age. Just something to think about.

The original Royal Tart Toter went insane due to Princess Bubblegum.
Before the bridge (where Cinnamon Bun went) was built, Princess Bubblegum just sent him (the Royal Tart Toter) away and thought he just went through the desert alone. To support this, you can see this bridge seemed rather new, even more so since the others but the Princess seemed to know nothing of this obvious bridge. It’s rather sad that he must of gone back and forth across the evil desert, and once he finally snapped, instead of trying to help the Princess, he tries to look away and tells everyone to not talk to him.
We also know Princess Bubblegum likes to play mind games, as she told Finn and Jake they had to deliver the tarts or she would die. She most likely made him snap and sent him away.
(Side note: what was she thinking when she had the paralyzing potion where they make the tarts? Was she planning on killing someone at the party?)

Although BMO is not mutated, you can see in the episode ‘Be More’ (S5E28) that BMO has a heart, when his old creator opened BMO’s inside.
Maybe that heart is Football’s heart, or from the son of BMO’s creator. Although Moe (BMO’s creator) loved Football so much, the problem he found with him was that he was boring. When Football died, Moe took Football’s heart and re-assembled it into a robotic heart, which made Football “fun”, or in other words, Moe said, to BE MORE.
